Bali Art Week — Fictional Poster Series for Real Places

During my stay in Bali from 2018 to 2020, I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the island's rich craftsmanship by exploring various areas known for their meticulous artistry. Inspired by this experience, I conceptualised a fictional series of 'Art Weeks', each dedicated to celebrating the unique crafts of six distinct regions in Bali.

As I zipped around the island on my scooter, I eagerly visited villages, art markets, galleries, and artist studios. Additionally, I had the opportunity to co-curate the gallery space at Kinship Studio, where I collaborated closely with local artists. This experience exposed me to a whole new world of artistic techniques and perspectives, providing valuable insights into the art and crafts prevalent across the island.

The series of posters I created aims to showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of the Balinese people and pay tribute to the artisans who have mastered their respective arts. Each poster is devoted to a specific craft and the region it thrives in: Painters (Ubud), Weavers (Klungkung), Jewelers (Celuk), Bamboo specialists (Blahbatu), Wood carvers (Mas) and Batubulan (Stone carvers).

This series of posters aim to highlight those various crafts and are a tribute to the locals that are true masters in their arts and expertise.
